How to select my latest iPad photos to copy to PC; DCIM subfolders are random/unintelligible ?

Often want to copy most recent iPad photos to my PC. Windows Explorer shows the iPad and the DCIM folder fine, but the contents of DCIM appear random making it difficult to find pics I want. e.g., I now have 22 DCIM subfolders with names like "987WJYBH". Latest pics could be anywhere! UGH!
