Outlook 2013 Calendar Sync fails with new iTunes 11.1.5.5

My System:

-- Win 7 32-bit OS

-- iPad and iPhone are updated to most current iOS (7.0.6)

-- Just updated to most current iTunes for Windows (11.1.5.5)

-- MS Outlook 2013

I have been successfully syncing Outlook 2013 with my iPad 3 and iPhone 4S for a few years now. I just updated iTunes for Windows to v11.1.5.5. When I sync now, the process gets stuck on "Syncing Calendars".

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Thanks.

Do you have Eset security software products (for instance, Nod32) installed on that PC?

If so, see Samoreen's post:

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I DO have eSet security installed, but I have been successfully synching with eSet installed for the last two years.

I read Samoreen's post and it appears he got iTunes to work by shutting off part of the eSET software. His thread also mentions eSet claimed there was a bug in iTunes.

I don't want to turn off any part of my eSet antivirus software.

I am concluding the problem is with the latest version of iTunes, since that is the only variable that has changed on my computer.

I am not sure what to do next.

Thanks.

** UPDATE **

I only update my iPad and iPhone a few times a month, and it really is a "download" since I only make modifications in Outlook 2013.

Therefore, since my last successful sync I have only done two things:

(1) updated iTunes to 11.1.5.5

(2) update to iOS 7.0.6

I have been attempting to sync using previous versions of iTunes (e.g. 11.1.4, 11.1.3, etc.) but these all get stuck in the "Preparing to sync" phase.

I think my next option is to go back to most current version of iTunes, then reset/rebuild my iPhone and iPad from backups to see if that works.

Hi,

ESET have a workaround for this issue. They gave me access to a test version of the HIPS module and this fixed the problem. So I could re-enable the ESET_OPTIONS environment variable (although I still consider that it's a questionable idea). I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5.5 and there was no problem.

So maybe you should get in touch with ESET support and request the new module ? Just send a message to Marcos in the ESET forum.

Regards.

Thanks for the response. I might give that a try.

I still am not sure if eSET NOD32 Antivirus really is my problem.

Although I don't know which version of iTunes I upgraded, I am pretty sure it was an 11.1.x version. I have tried to go back to 11.1.4 and 11.1.3 and neither fixed the problem.

The weird part is I have been successfully syncing with eSET enabled for years now.

** UPDATE 3 -- FINAL -- PROBLEM FIXED ***

I was able to fix my non-working iTunes Windows Calendar sync by going back to iTunes for Windows v11.1.1.

I used the following steps:

(1) Uninstalled iTunes for Windows (and associated Apple software) using this guide:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

(2) Installed iTunes for Windows v11.1.1.11.exe

(Got older version from File Hippo)

http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes_32/16100/

(3) Launched iTunes for Windows, then connected iPad via USB port

(4) When iPad was recongized, RESET SYNC HISTORY

-- In iTunes select "Edit", then "Preferences", then select the "Devices" tab

-- click the "Reset Sync History" button

-- click "OK".

(5) Sync the iPad replacing the exiting Calendars on the iPAD

-- click the 'iPad" button at the top-right of iTunes

-- Select the "Info" button at the top

-- Check "Sync Contacts with Outlook", "Sync Calendars with Outlook"

-- Scroll down and in the "Advanced" section click "Replace information on this iPad, Calendars"

-- Click "Sync"

Make sure that this fix survives a system reboot. I also believed that I had fixed the problem by reverting to a previous version of iTunes but it soon re-appeared after I rebooted the system. If this is the case for you, you should get in touch with ESET and request the new module.

Samoreen,

My success appears to have survived a system reboot.

One action I did have to take was to make sure the "iTunes Outlook Addin" COM modules was running.

(In Outlook 2013 select "File", then "Options", then select the "Add-Ins" section on the left of the screen, then in the "Manage COM Add-Ins" section at the bottom, click "Go", then make sure "iTunes Outlook Addin" was checked).

When this module is unchecked (not running) the Calendar sync only worked one-way (Outlook to iPad). After it was checked the sync worked both ways.

🙂 Many thanks for the continued updates from the Eset side of things, Samoreen.

Do you have a link available for the Eset forums, or do you need to contact Eset first before getting access? (I had a poke around earlier looking for the forums but couldn't find them ... but I figured that might just have been lack of research skills on my part.)

Same problem here.

Mine is windows 7 32 bit and outlook 2010.

Before I update to 11.5 or 11.4, I used ESET nod32 and uninstalled it, I switch to Kaspersky.

But 11.4 and 11.5 both could not sync calendar.

And I installed 11.3 back, it is all ok.

Maybe apple should fix this problem, there has been two versions(11.4 11.5) got this problem.
