Am i doing it wrong to fix my MBP ?

I recently got my Macbook Pro OS X Lion to freeze during startup at Apple Logo after i force shut down it because it got froze and force quit doesn't work at all. After trying all ways to fix the freeze start up,it doesn't work and i have to use internet recovery to acess disk utility but when im trying to reinstal my Mac OS X Lion, i can't because a newer version is installed.

So i finally decided to use disk utility to restore first my Macintosh HD data to my external hard drive and then i planning to erase the Macintoch HD, and then try to reinstal the Mac OS X Lion again so that i won't lose my data.

So am i doing it wrong? or did i miss something?

Guys, i tried to backup my macintosh HD but its FAILED, cannot restore, Input/Output Error!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , i try to backup my data but its always failed Input/Output Error, so please anyone could help,

How could i reinstal my Lion if it doesn't allow me because a newer version is installed? Should i get the reinstall it using latest ( Mavericks) ? im so frustrated here, its been more than 1 week already im trying to solve this after searching the same problem and try to find solutions.

The only thing i haven't try is backup the data to another Mac using firewire (which i need to buy the firewire first).and backup the data using single mode user which using the commands that im not really familiar to it.

SO please, help me, how could i reinstall my Lion since the newer version is installed? i guess this is the safest way for me not to lose any data. Thanks for your help.

I had similar issues. My solution:

Fireware/lightening cables are expensive. Buy usb-hdd cable from amazon or somewhere else, cost in the region of $20, plug in your hdd and a usb slot on another machine, then you can access all your files there.

Then format your hd, do an internet reinstall, hold on cmd+option+R key, then you can install Mavericks.
