Why isn't my iPhone 5 charging?

I recently installed the new 7.0.6 update on my iPhone 5, and since then, I haven't been able to charge it properly. Yesterday, I was able to plug in my lightning cable and charge my phone, so long that I kept the iPhone very still in the same position (otherwise the lightning symbol kept turning on and off). However, today, with my charger plugged in, it doesn't even recognise it. My phone is now on 14% and I don't know what to do. I've tried turning it on and off again, resetting it, attempting to clean out the lightning cable input with a toothpick etc. and nothing is working. I'm so mad at Apple about this. I pay so much money to have this phone, and now it won't charge. Grrrrrr. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
