Mar 1, 2014 6:48 AM in response to tjgaffby Vimaco,I have the same problem... Any solution?
Same update, same OS version, same day... Sounds like an update bug.
I thought it was a hardware problem of my machine but if we are many people with the same problem, I doubt it.

Mar 1, 2014 1:04 PM in response to Eric Rootby wylie001,Same here. Can force it to come up in single user mode but that's not what it naturally does. Rebooting from single user screen does not work.

Mar 31, 2014 8:35 AM in response to tjgaffby Daniel Harding,It sounds like a corrupted OS update.
Had this and managed to fix it.
Boot the unit, holding the shift key, as though you're booting to safe mode.
When it gets to the black screen and your cursor, type the first letter of the username, press the Tab key, and then type in your full password, and press enter.
You'll get the spinning beach ball, and after a while you should get a Mavericks loading Window, with an updating loading bar. Let it go through and it should get to your desktop fine.
Restart you machine and then you should be good to go.
