iPad won't restart after repeated Recovery/restore

My iPad2 suddenly died - I assumed it was a dead battery, so charged it overnight.

Now it won't switch on. I have tried all the suggestions I can find on the forums.

Restart with on/off key and home key together - just get black screen and Apple logo.

iTunes won't recognise the iPad - I get an error "iTunes Could not connect to this iPhone, an Unknown error occured 0xE8000084" - there is no help for this error code, and why does it say iPhone when this is an iPad??

While iTunes is running, the iPad seems to switch repeatedly between all black screen and black with Apple logo - but never switches on properly, and is never fully recognised by iTunes - error as above.

I've checked that iTunes is up to date, Apple Mobile Device is running, and the driver is up to date.

I have put the iPad into recovery mode and used iTunes to restore it (4 times over now) but each time it seems to complete OK, but then when I get the message to "leave the iPad connected, it will appear in iTunes when it restarts" it never does appear - all I get is the repeated on and off (bong bing .... bing bong) as the logo appears and disappears on the iPad, and the error message above appears.

I have tried a different cable, a different USB port on my PC, I've tried rebooting the PC, I've repeated the recovery/restore process 4 or 5 times - and still can't get the iPad to power up or iTunes to recognise it so I can try to restore from back-up.

Has anyone any other suggestions to save my sanity, or do I just throw the b*****y thing away!😠

Thanks, Helen

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE

1. Turn off iPad

2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)

3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port

4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.

DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug

5. Release Home button.

ON COMPUTER

6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.

7. Select "Restore iPad"...

Note:

1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup

2. If you did not do step 4 properly, start all over again.

So the reason why your ipad will not restore is becasue the iOS is corrupted. Normally in this situation a restore from recovery mode resolves the issue. However, since that has not worked for you, you are looking at performing a DFU Mode restore. Follow my steps below:

  • Attach the phone to the pc
  • Turn the phone off
  • Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
  • Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
  • At no point will the display come on.

Now your restore should work.

Thanks Zixaxi. I followed your instructions and this time the iPad screen was black before I did the restore, on my previous attempts it had the itunes and cable logo so I am pretty sure I was in DFU mode.

The restore all looked to go smoothly but unfortunately at the end of the resotre I received a message saying "The iPad could not be activated because an unknown error occuret (0xE8000084). Please try again later.

Any other ideas?

Purple Helen,

Since your have tried just about all you can do but to no avail, maybe you would consider looking into Apple's Out-Of-Warranty Service.

Check this out:

http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

Select Warranty & Service Pricing.

Then select, My iPad is not eligible for warranty service. What are my service options?

I know it's not cost effective, just a thought if all else fails.
