And why don't you restore the backup copy of your 'important' emails?

I seriously doubt that Apple delete your data. It is far more like that your Mac did it.

If you don't backup then you will lose data, if it is important that you don't lose data you should backup.
Once more, what makes you think Apple deleted your emails, it is far more likely that you made a mistake and now can't recover because you have no backup.
1 copy of "important" emails that you keep in an email folder shows that you are not treating "important" things as if they were important.

Mar 1, 2014 6:04 AM in response to tommy145254by bobwild,Did anythinbg change on your system before your archive folder disappear?
Did you just notice one day the archive folder was gone?
What was in the Archive folder? I dont mean the emails. My Archive folder has Gmail(all mail) and iCloud.
How did you archive emails to the Archive folder?
Are they Gmail?
I have never seen my Archive folder disappear after any OS X updates.
Apple does not have access to your iMac so they cannot delete anything.

Mar 1, 2014 6:10 AM in response to bobwildby tommy145254,No, after an email upgrade it just wasn't there anymore, I hadn't deleted any folders from my mac, never do. I just drag important messages into my archive folder, then every few months I copy it all onto a seperate drive! If you havent seen anything like this before, then I can only assume I must have done something to cause it. But I don't know whay, as my policy is never to delete a folder, until it's empty! thanks anyway.

It contained all my standard emails from all accounts, just dragged the email into the archive folder, which was in the sidebar of "Mail".
