Q: Extending wireless range of Timecapsule AC

Dear All,

I have been doing quite some research but seem to find a lot of conflicting information in regards to extending the reach of the latest ac Time Capsule Airport. We have recently moved house and now have a second story and since moving we now don’t have sufficient wireless coverage upstairs. Most information I have found regarding extending the wireless range is that the speed significantly drops. What I am thinking of doing is to wire a Apple Airport Extreme – AC model and set it to extend the existing time capsule.

Can anyone please advise if it is true that this will drop the overall wireless speed?

Thanks and Regards,

Mark

Using a wired over a wireless connection between AirPort base stations would provide for better overall bandwidth.

When using wired connection, this type of network is called a roaming network.

    Dear Tesserax,

thanks for that, but will it still slow down the overall performance. Or should it not be too noticable?

    Best Regards,

    Mark

There is no signal loss in a wire up to 330+ feet or 100 meters, so the extending device receives full network bandwidth with no reduction in speed.....IF......you use an Ethernet cable to connect the Time Capsule and other device.

Keep in mind that if you want to extend "ac" signals, you will need a new AirPort Extreme 802.11ac or another Time Capsule 802.11ac to match the performance of your new Time Capsule.
