Q: How many tracks of audio will Logic Express 9 support

Hi,

I mixing a logic express 9 project for a friend and am finding distortion on tracks when in mix, but not when soloed.

We have already reduced the oveall levels of each track and solved some of the distortion problems.

When I first put a compressor in the 2-mix, and selected it to read peaks, it was reading gain reduction withoutout pulling the threshold down at all.

I used Global reduction of all track levels which allowed the gain reduction threshold to be pulled down some before seeing any G/R and we don't hear any distortion.

I've already done that with several pieces and it works.

On one, though, some distortion remains. He copy/paste doubled some of the vocal tracks but now they are trned down and muted.

Would removing them solve the distortion problem? We probabaly have around 20 tracks in this project.

Is there a buffer we can increase to solve this problem? f so where is it?

I'm a Pro Tools user and he's not up to speed yet on Logic.

I am getting used to the interface. Some neat stuff.

We're just stuck with this distortion issue.

He's running on an iMac. Don't know which one but it's LARGE.

Regards,

As I think you already know, a general rule of thumb is to use a smaller buffer when recording in order to reduce latency and use a larger buffer when mixing to avoid distortion, pops, clicks, and glitches.

You can open your preferences in Logic on the top left of the menu bar and then go to your Audio > Devices tabs to set your buffer. Experiment with the larger sample settings and see if that helps.
