What does a WAN Connectivity Failure mean?

I have setup Airport Time Capsule and it seems to work. I ran Wireless Diagnostics to see what it would report and one problem was reported: "WAN Connectivity Failure- Your Wi-Fi connections appears to be working as expected, but your wireless router cannot reach the internet. Try restarting your wireless router, and if that doesn't work contact your network Internet Service Provided (ISP) for further assistance." Since I don't have any problems that I'm aware of, should I just ignore this reprorted problem? Thank you for any input.

Occasional dropouts of the WAN is common on the AC model TC and the latest firmware on the older model.. if you have older model take it back to 7.6.1 firmware.

If you have AC model there is an actual bug with some modems.. or modem routers.

Tell us what modem/router you have.

I can suggest a few things that might help but sometimes it can actually be more than faulty unit that should be returned and replaced by apple.

It is also vaguely possible to have ISP modem or connection issues but that is the least likely.

I have: Westell Wirespeed Dual Connect NAT Router Model 6100F and Airport Time Capsule: ME177LL/A Model No. A1470 802.11ac 2TB version 7.72 (77200.7).

If you keep noticing a WAN dropout problem.. it will not be continuous but now and then the WAN is not working this is typical issue with new Gen5 TC as I mentioned.

Solutions.. hmmm.. not sure..

I have recommended to people to try using a crossover cable. It is not in theory going to help.. but it does.

I have also suggested people try using a small 10/100 switch between the modem and the TC. And see if that helps.. it does in some cases.

Otherwise ring apple and check what they say.. they might decide it is faulty and should be replaced.
