Mar 2, 2014 10:17 AM in response to PAHUby NancyCK,I'm trying to use the Canon's MP Navigator scanning application. I can scan from system preferences, but can't save and use for other purposes. Any recommendations on how to scan from System Preferences and then save as a pdf document? The power of the MP Navigator is a big loss. Would prefer not to have to replace the printer/scanner just because the OS X 10.9.2 update can't handle it. Thanks for your help!

To use MP Navigator you must have the MP240 scanner driver installed. To check if this scanner driver has installed, open Finder and select Go > Go to Folder and enter /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources then press Go. With the TWAIN Data Sources folder open, do you see a file called Canon MP240 series.ds. If not, then install the scanner driver linked to above.

This sounds like you have a permissions problem. Open Disk Utility, select your Mavericks partition and click on Repair Disk Permissions. When this has completed see if you can scan.
You could also try opening Image Capture and with the Show Details view selected, see what folder it is being scanned to and if that fails, then see if you can scan to a different folder.
And via Image Capture you also have the option to save the document as a PDF.

The last version of scanner driver and MP Navigator scanning application available for the MP810 from Canon was for Mac OS X 10.7. You may be able to install and use them on OS X 10.9. But as neither will be digitally signed, Gatekeeper in OS X 10.9 will block their installation. To get past Gatekeeper, you can hold down the Control key and click on the installer. A pop-up menu will appear where you can select Open. This will then give you the option to install the scanner driver and MP Navigator.

Dec 4, 2015 8:56 AM in response to PAHUby mfromwestport,Hi Pahu,
I am having a similar problem. I have a MP240 Canon Printer/Scanner device. I am unable to Scan. I tired both of your methods above.
"To use MP Navigator you must have the MP240 scanner driver installed. To check if this scanner driver has installed, open Finder and select Go > Go to Folder and enter /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources then press Go. With the TWAIN Data Sources folder open, do you see a file called Canon MP240 series.ds. If not, then install the scanner driver linked to above." ---- When I checked my scanner drive it was missed, so, I followed your directions and re-installed with the link you provided. This allows the application to open for 2 seconds and then I get an error message that is unexpectedly quit. Which is better than before because it didn't even open it immediately gave me the error message.
I also tried your other approach: "This sounds like you have a permissions problem. Open Disk Utility, select your Mavericks partition and click on Repair Disk Permissions. When this has completed see if you can scan." ---- I preformed the repair disk utility, but this didn't fix the scanning issue when trying to access it from System Preference. When I open the scanner from system preference scanning is not an option. the button is there but I am unable to click on it. When I click on Show Details it the box becomes lighter in color and now 3 buttons can be seen but I am unable to click on any of them.
I just recently updated the operating system to the newest OS version 10.9.5 El Capitan...wondering if the drivers provided in the link are not compatible.
Any idea what could be going on here?
