Airport Extreme 7.6.4 :: USB Issues with Printer and NAS

I have an Airport Extreme 7.6.4 running Airport Utility 6.3.2.

Setup:

  • USB Hub (USB 3.0) attached directly to Airport Extreme (powered).
  • Canon Pro 9000 MarkII attached to HUB.
  • RAID enclosure attached to HUB (NAS).
  • OSX Mavericks with the latest updates.

Issue:

I noticed the issue starting about 6 months ago (give or take) where either or both the print and NAS will no longer be detected by my Mac. I notice this more with the NAS as I use that more frequently but it also fails on the printer. I was using this setup for about 1 1/2 years without any problems so I know the setup is functionally correct (Apple approved - perhaps not).

I resolve the issue when it occurs by restarting the Airport Extreme (via the Airport Utility) - a process my family doesn't appreciate. Once reset, everything is back to normal. I have found nothing from Google on this.

Needless to say, this is becoming a less than optimal experience and I was hoping this was an issue in the firmware (probably in the name of energy efficiency - but I'm mearily speculating at this point).

I'm to the point where I'm going to purchase another router but I thought I would hit the forums first. Is anyone else experiencing this.

Thank you in advance!

OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
