Unable to install QuickTime 7.7.5

Hi,

I am using Windows 8.1 and was notified of the above update this morning.

The update failed twice and it told me to try manually which I did. This didn't work either.

"The installer has insufficient priviledges to access the directory C;\Program filesx(86)\Quicktime. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator"

Have tried 3 times.

I am on as the administrator.

Any ideas please? Never had this happen before.

Thanks,

Jayne Perry

did you mean rename the installer.exe flle?

No, the QuickTime folder mentioned in the error message you're getting during the install.

In Computer, open the C drive.

Open the "Program files (x86)" folder.

Now rename the "QuickTime folder" QuickTimeOLD.

After doing that, try another install using the QuickTimeInstaller.exe installer file.

🙂 You're welcome!

YES that worked! 🙂

But why?

When the QuickTime installer runs, the first thing it tries to do is uninstall the previous version. If there's damage to QuickTime program files (or something else amiss), that can stop the install. (It can give a message talking about privileges and permissions when that happens.)

So what we did was "hide" the damage from the installer. When it went to remove the previous version, it didn't see any old program files lying about (because the installation database won't be looking for anything in a folder called "QuickTimeOLD"), so instead of getting hung up on removing the old folder and/or files in it, it just put in a new one and a new set of program files when it went on to install the newer version.

I am having the same installation problem as Jaynez (unable to install QuickTime 7.7.5) even though I followed the same procedure that worked for him.

However, the error message I got is

"Error getting file security: \\..\..\..\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorere\GetLastError:50".

Note: The dots in the error message after the double back slashes were put in by me to skip words.

Thanks alot in advance.
