Finding a serial number for a mac book

I updated the software on my Mac book as usual. However it will not restart. I get a grey screen of death!

I try to get help but Apple insist I have a serial number...

I can't get it from the software. The mac book will not boot up

There is no serial number on the product body where they say it should be (not on the case and not in the battery compartment

The original invoice from years ago has been lost

Help please

I'm typing this on my iPad

MacBook, iOS 7.0.6

You may have to see if you can get past the gray screen...

•Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2570

•MacBook: How to find the serial number

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1366

Also, if you registered the computer on purchase, or not,

the Apple site online likely has the product serial number

along with any other hardware items you bought.

Odd thing is, I've found a list of items going back 10 yrs

with the serial number and other info; but can't find

the page URL now that I'm looking for it. The content

appears only if you are logged into the Apple site; so

that means it uses your Apple ID to get that history.

I'll look more for a time, but it's 12:45AM now.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
