Can I connect Apple TV via ethernet to my Apple Extreme ethernet LAN port to create a wi-fi area using the Apple TV device? or do I need to:
Connect a second Time capsule and connect via Ethernet LAN i.e. 2 Airport Extremes connected via Lan Ethernet with the second connected to Apple TV via LAN Ethernet?
The distance between the original Time Capsule is far too great for the Apple TV to connect and transfer quickly.

You can set up an AirPort Express inbetween the main base station as a setup to Extend your current network wirelessly, so you can get your Apple TV connected that way.
Thanks. Do I have to locate the Express physically mid-distance between the Time Capsule and Apple TV?
Then how will I get it to extend the wi-fi i.e. how do I set-up?
Will an Extreme be faster and serve the same purpose?

Yeah, you will want to reset the AirPort Express to factory, plug it in physically between the Apple TV and AirPort Time Capsule, then run through the "first time setup" on the AirPort Express (on iPhone/iPad, Settings > WiFi > Setup new AirPort Base Station) and make sure you set it to "Extend Existing Network"
