Mar 2, 2014 10:07 AM in response to krsnh22by b noir,Both Apple Software Update and standard iTunes downloadable installers work by uninstalling the previous version of iTunes (if present) prior to installing the new version. That major difference between the two types of update in terms of size is that an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) contains installer components for all the different related components (as well as iTunes) just in case the install is happening on a "green field" PC where none of the needed components are installed. ASU (usually) checks to see which components on the PC are missing or out-of-date, and just downloads the components that need to be installed or updated to a newer version. That can keep the download sizes down a bit when updating to the newer version.
So, if you don't have Apple Software Update for Windows, or ASU is not working, you might as well use one of the installers downloaded from the website to do the update:

Mar 2, 2014 10:19 AM in response to krsnh22by turingtest2,You can run Apple Software Update from the start menu or iTunes > Help > Check for Updates. In either case iTunes will download a complete installer, there is no delta update feature for iTunes for Windows.
