Which is the issue: Apple TV? Mac? Snow Leopard?

Help please!l I am trying to airplay/mirror on my mac to my tv via Apple TV (please see my signature for device info). Brief history: Just purch an older mac, trans all from winxp to mac. Used to Airplay from winxp to Apple TV now trying to do so from mac only.

Ok so I have read that since I have an older mac 7,1 (mid 2010) #MC516LL/A with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 I can't have Airplay.

But I have also read that since I have airplay/mirror on Apple TV I can, if I update from Snow Leopard to Mtn Lion, Lion or Mavericks.

Which is true?😕

One more thing...how do you tell if you have Apple TV or Apple TV 2?

About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs that do not support Airplay and mirroring.

Other solutions are the Air Parrot, StreamToMe, and AirServer.

Kappy, Wow thanks that was lightening fast response.

So as per links, I have a 3rd gen Apple TV

I checked out all the links...thank you.

Beamer seems to be only for movies,

I have tried Air Parrot it constantly freezes and lags behind. I will check out the other two StreamToMe and AirServer.

To Confirm:

So even though I see the blue Airplay icon on iTunes library on my mac and it did stream music to apple tv just now...

my mac will never be able to get Airplay Mirroring (particularly to watch websites and photos on my Apple TV) because it is not 2011 and up (as per the link above titled About Airplay Mirroring OS X)...Regardless of OS X upgrades to Mavericks CORRECT?😟

Well in all fairness I just tried it this morning...its storming and also it is the free trial so perhaps it would be better if weather was and it was the paid version?

That does stink that I can not Airplay on a 2010 mac even with Mavericks though grrr!

It is odd that iTunes will Airplay on it right now too
