Can i use iTunes with files stored on a memory stick?

I have 1000's of mp3 files on a memory stick, and would like to use them on iTunes without transferring them to the hard drive of my MacBook Air.

So far I can only seem to use the files when they are imported to the hard drive which is taking up a lot of capacity.

Thanks.

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Joel,

Go into your iTunes Preferences > Advanced, and make sure that "Keep..." and "Copy..." are both not checked.

Now, iTunes can play the files on the stick without making a copy on the hard drive.
