Computer not recognizing touchpad. Recognizes wireless mouse but nothing is working

The issue of Pairing (or un-pairing) may be a contributing factor.

I disconnected my hard drive to go to apple store. When I returned it did not recognize my touchpad. It does recognize my wireless mouse but nothing happens when I try to use it. The batteries are new
