iPhone acts odd, crazy, touch screen, random behavior, while charging

This post only addresses iPhone acting up while charging and using the device.

Problem:

I have a cord and wall charger I take with me in my laptop case. It charges the iPhone fine, but... when I attempt to use the iPhone while it charges on this cord the touch sreen responds CRAZY, or RANDOM, like an invisible finger is pressing another area of the screen.

I can not consistantly or hardly OPEN the device by "slide to unlock" .... most of the time it actually ZOOMs in like the 3 Finger touch.

ONLY when I unplug the phone can I "slide to unlock" and have normal use of phone.

Troubleshooting:

We have 5 Apple devices I tried all the Cords with all wall Plugs...

Solution:

Turns out that we some how have a Wall Plug that doesn' appear to be "Designed by Apple in CA"

All the other plugs either have an Apple Logo or state "Designed by Apple in CA"

...This one that doesn't work properly has the same model #'s and voltage written on the face, but says "Power Adapter made in China"

It Charges fine but, must have a grounding issue or something that causes the touch screen to respond Crazy & Odd.

I Marked this one with a sharpie marrker "X", we just use it to Charge as a last resort.

If you have similar issues this could be your best bet....test it yourself with another cord or wall plug.

Can't wait to get rid of this piece of garbage when my current contract expires. First iphone5 had to be replaced because it didn't ring. I was on an oncall job at the time, lost thousands of dollars and almost got fired. Took three visits to the apple store and being very irate to get it replaced.

Now it acts crazy on the charger. Updating is ****.

I'm having this same issue, random clicking among apps, green screen. My daughter took the phone to the Apple store and they said is a bad screen and needs to be replaced and is not cover under warranty even do I bought the device 2 months ago.

Shame on you Apple, I'm going to visit another Apple store and see if they may honor their word and the 1 year warranty on their phones.

Believe it or not, last night an iphone charging with a generic non-apple charger, between 4:34 am and 4:58 am recorded 8 videos of darkness (the camera against the floor) and 6 pictures of the same darkness. And published one of the pictures in Instagram!!!! I'm absolutely not joking. I just realized that something was wrong with the iphone when it started playing a song at minimum volume.

I understand that electrical instability coming from AC and from a generic charger can act over the electrical sensors on the screen, yes I do understand, but there are a LOT of coordinated clicks to unlock the screen (no password), to record such amount of videos and pictures and to publish on Instagram!! And more, it should change the camera between Photo and Video and the camera was changed also from back to front camera! And what about playing music!! Scary.

Also the "non disturb" icon, the half moon, was switched on.

My wife says that there is a ghost at home!! : ))

Hi,

I also ended up with the same behavior. It started about a week ago while p laying Solitaire a card game, the phone played the whole rest of the game that I was playing almost like someone was <<touching the screen>> instead of me.

When I updated to 8.0.2, it stopped for a while ( about 4 days) than started again this morning, I wanted to surf on the web for some site and, you should have seen it going, almost like if someone was surfing at MY phone remotely.

VERY worrisome TMO. EVER and I say EVER I will let a piece of technology dictate what where and how I am going to surf without my explicit consent EVER.

I surfed the web about this and even called APPLE CARE and, the obvious answer was almost like << REALLY ??????>>

No seriously Apple, not only the case could be bent like a sheet of cheap aluminium BUT now, your phone has an attitude on it's own Really ?????

I am willing to push this '' ISSUE'' up to public attention in order to push the BIG APPLE CIE to a major review of these two issues ( Case and keyboard )

without any further delay.

I’ve had this problem with every iPhone I’ve ever had. I always use the charger that comes with my phone to avoid any complications. If I’m scrolling it will “vibrate” the page. Typing in my passcode is impossible. Trying to use anything that involves using the touch screen is a chore. It only stops misbehaving whenever my phone is not connected to the charger.

iPhone 6

Apple Charging Cords

Recently downloaded iOS 9.0.2

Verizon

First happened while typing a text message and first app it accessed was LINE all while NOT plugged in to anything.

Happened to me for the first time today. Phone was NOT plugged in and was at about 80% charge according to battery icon on phone screen. I was trying to send a text message and the phone kept leaving messages and opening other apps. Phone opened maps, flashlight, contacts, line, viber, mail and opened the same email numerous times, swiped left and started typing in the search bar, etc. Within mail (I have 4 mail accounts) it would switch mail accounts, open the inbox, and open a message. Within the LINE app it switched from "Chats" to "Contacts" opened a contact and started typing a message. I have 3 pages of apps and the "touches" were happening all over the screen and included swipes both to the left and the right.

I turned airplane mode on and ALL of the "ghost touching" stopped.

Hard rebooted the phone and turned airplane mode off and it started happening again.

Signed out of apple account and it stopped.

Stayed out of apple account until I got to a computer, signed into apple account via computer and changed password, signed into apple account on phone with new password and so far (2 hours later) no more "ghost touching."

I also have an iPad 2, iPad air and iPad mini which I have not updated to 9.0.2 and have never had any problems.

Hard to believe this is a hardware issue if turning airplane mode on makes it stop and other people switching phones (hardware) doesn't solve the issue.

I admit to the fact that it is not an Apple genuine charger but beside the fact that it is supposed to ''supply '' 5 volts through the USB connector what else it is supposed to do, call the Ghosts around your toy to have fun on it ???????

When mine started to behave like that (weird keyboard acting) I was playing Solitaire and believe it or not, IT FINISHED THE GAME AND| I WON ( or IT WON ) should I way.

I suspect that there is a '' backdoor '' opened in the new IPhone 6 and THEY should look at it RIGHT NOW

It is good to see that I am not the only one getting this strange behaviour - like it is running a script.

Happening for me on an iPhone 5S and I did not think i had a charger that was not supplied by Apple. Have to see if there is a way of confirming it.

The keyboard script or whatever it is seems to burst into life when the phone gets to full charge or overcharged?

Yes this has happened to me with serveral of my iphones the screen cracks from being knocked of your bedside you replace them at a phone shop that isn’t official apple because it’s half price and this causes problems when charging. It’s part of their marketing plan. Along with constant updates that progressively slow older iPhone versions down. The one thing that has been requested countless times is stronger screens and longer battery life. No ifs no buts this will be my last iPhone.

My 6plus had the same issue and when I took ti Apple store they couldn't fault it with the touch screen issue. Regardless, they replaced it with a new 6plus for $209 (australia) and it still does the same thing. Haven't tried without the cover as yet. Also battery life has gone to the dog since then and I do believe this Iphone is slower than my old one from the get go.

I have the same issue with both my iPad and iPhone 7+ ...

Both devices, when plugged in to either the Apple usb wall charger OR my macbook pro usb to charge, randomly click things and makes messaging (or typing in general) almost impossible without unplugging the device first. An app I use on the iPad for work as a musician (onsong app) randomly selects options within the app while trying to use it. Even simple things like games won't work properly, things just randomly click anywhere on the screen.

Both devices work fine when not plugged in to charge. I only use Apple charging cables and power plugs for both plugging into power and plugging into my macbook pro. Both devices are up to date with updates. This has been happening for months now and it just seems to be getting worse on both devices.

What could be the problem, Apple?

For me it happened after a flight, I had the iphone on Bluetooth connected to the airline’s WiFi in the pocket of my jacket, then on my way to pick my baggage up, I took the phone out of my pocket and tried to turn Bluetooth off, but the phone wouldn’t let me do it, it kept changing the screen and moving by itself. I tried to turn it off, but instead it took screenshots, until finally I was able to turn it off and on again.

I thought that maybe somebody remotely was trying to hack it and got worried. It has acted normal since that time.

This is the charge that Apple sells:

Check the "Compatibility" tab.

The only solid explanation that I have read here is that apples chargers are not really charges because that is regulated inside the phone, and the charger is simply a power supply that does not 'force' any amperage, or watts into the battery, nor the device. If this is true the next question that needs to be asked is if the internal regulator of the phone may be malfunctioning and 'allowing' improper current from the "power supply"? I feel like this is a likely scenario, as it is only affecting a small percentage of users.

Yes, that is exactly how it works. Sometimes the problem is the charger, sometimes the phone itself.

And, no, I'm not an engineer. However, one of the regulars here, Lawrence Finch, is. He has repeatedly stated that using an iPad charger is fine (any misstatements are mine and not Lawrence's). Based on that and my personal experience using nothing but iPad chargers for my iPhones since there were iPads, I'm quite willing to recommend that using an iPad charger is fine.

Best of luck.
