Set computer up from new...sort of

I have a 2011 MBA and I want to delete mostly everything off of my computer and start from new but want to keep some of the old such as documents, iTunes libraries, iPhoto libraries and some applications. What would be the best way to go about this. Also keeping everything in keychain iis very important as well. Thank you

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Welcome to Apple Discussions

First do a backup of everything...

Second you want to reinstall the OS only but before you try that boot to Repair (command-R) and choose Disk Tools->Disk Utility:Disk First Aid to verify your Disk. If repair fails you have to reformat the boot volume (hence the backup).

You reinstall the OS from the same place - Repair. Once the OS is reinstalled run all the updates...
