Mavericks Calendar Exchange sync issue

I'm running OS X Mavericks and I'm having trouble syncing my calendar via Exchange. I keep getting an error message "Calendar can't connect to the account "my email account"". What is strange is that my emails are working fine. I have tried numerous times to re-enter my password but it's not working.

Appreciate your help.

Hi Linc

Although the solution you suggested worked initially the problem is back. I have tried to redo removing and adding the account and it only works briefly until I close down my contacts or calendar. I get the same error message on re-opening either application. Any ideas what could be causing the problem? Should I try changing my password with my email service provider?

Thank you, appreciate your help.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.

First, empty the Trash, if possible.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.

The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.

The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.

Back up all data.

Step 1

If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.

Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):

{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.

The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.

Step 2 (optional)

Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.

Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select

Utilities Terminal

from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:

res

Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:

resetpassword

Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.

Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.

Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.

Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.

Select

Restart

from the menu bar.

Hi

Sorry for the delayed reply, I’ve been travelling. I tried Step 1 which unfortunately did not solve the problem. I then tried Step 2 but unfortunately no drive is listed in the “Reset Password” window. My Mac has the standard “out of the box” setup with only one user / administrator - myself. Do you perhaps know why no drive nor user account is listed?

Thank you

Jacques

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Hi Linc

I am sorry I never replied to your last post. I have lived with my non-functional calendar by instead relying on my iPhone's calendar. I've now purchased a new Macbook and was hoping that the problem would go away but unfortunately I'm still experiencing the same issue. I guess it must have something to do with the fact that my details are stored in the iCloud. I have re-run the instruction you provided previously and pasted the result below. I would really appreciate your thoughts / help - I would like to get this matter solved once and for all. Thank you again. Jacques

Linc, I am having an issue that seems similar to this post. Calendar is not sync'ing with Exchange, but mail and contact have no issue. I am running 10.9.5 and a new Mac Book Pro 15" After running the command line stated in your message, the number I get is... 8 But I cannot find anything that refers to what this means. Do you have an interpretation, and will it permit me to solve my calendar sync issue with Exchange? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Hi Linc,

I am having the same problem. I am using my company's exchange server for mail and calendar. The former works, the latter doesn't on Mac OS X Mavericks and Yosemite. However, on the iPhone the is no problem at all. We had many Exchange problems recently and nothing worked. Before everything was fine for me, after the fix everything works but Calendar. Any item added to my exchange calendar from webmail or my phone does not sync to Mac Calendar. However, if I add an event on my Mac, it is synced properly.

Here is one entry of the log, I have many of them:

22/10/14 13:23:01.718 CalendarAgent[1169]: WARNING: Skipped CalendarItem for itemID = AAMkAGM2Y2EzMmVkLWZhM2QtNDMxZi05NTQyLWM4Y2MwZjYxMmIzNwFRAAgIzvFWqF2AAEYAAAAA36I 7vflkK02cJwxWlYcUkQcAV5QmYQ6DRk2Em7Xh6Yt0BAAAAiNALAAAVkHD02INf0+1SzC/aNtItgBzDIk JAgAAEA==. Error Code = 13

What is interesting also is that I can access shared calendars but not my own.

Thanks!
