I am exeriencing the very same issue with my 2012 Macbook Air after applying the 10.9.2 update. I have never experienced this before while running OS X versions 10.8.x through 10.9.1 on this hardware. I have dug extensively through the system logs and can find no trace of the cause. It's definitely not a kernel panic and the system logs show normal activity until the freeze occurs and then show the boot-time messages from the hard reset that I have to perform. I have reinstalled the OS and have run the Apple Hardware Test diagnostics (with no errors found) and just had another freeze a few moments ago. I am stumped as to the cause other than to say that it's almost surely a bug that Apple introduced with 10.9.2. My best suggestion would be to supply feedback to Apple about this at www.apple.com/feedback, since they don't monitor these fora.
Cheers,
Dave
