    'It is not for me'...

    Sorry for any confusion.

To be clear - 'Open anyway is an option in System Preferences>Security and Privacy - If you have Security settings set for downloads, the 'Open anyway' button used to allow you to override those settings for specific downloads, but it's not functioning for me anymore.

    Okay,

I see this notification sometimes in a design application when I use or is make up in a older version of it.

BUT, this is not the case ... did you select in System Preferences>Security and Privacy settings Safari, Calendar ...

Unlock the lock by filling out your password>select it, or deselect it and save the chainges.

Than select Safari again an save the chainges.

Now you have to hope that is is okay ... you will find out soon you download something for prompting the Open anyway.

    Oh well... thanks.

I can download, and then access the download by clicking the lock to make changes/adjusting my security, and then resetting it afterwards - but in 9.1  'Open anyway' provided an immediate one off override, without having to unlock/adjust/relock etc.

...Which is what one would expect 'Open anyway' to imply.

I don't know about "Open anyway" on your machine - it works for me, but the way I open files that I know are safe (but not recognized by mac security) is to (1) Control-click on the file and select "Open", (2) Confirm that I really want to open it in the resulting dialog.

I was having the same problem.  From the apple "help" topics, I was able to find this answer, that worked.  Hope it helps!

(mind you, the "open anyway" button still didn't work for me, but by opening the program in this fashion it automatically adds it to your exception list.)

Open an app from an unidentified developer

If you try to open an app that is not registered with Apple by an identified developer you get a warning dialog. This doesn’t necessarily mean that something’s wrong with the app. For example, some apps were written before developer ID registration began. However, the app has not been reviewed, and OS X can’t check whether the app has been modified or broken since it was released.

A common way to distribute malware is to take an innocent app and insert harmful code into it, and then redistribute the infected app.

The safest approach is to look for a later version of the app from the Mac App Store or look for an alternative app.

To override your security settings and open the app anyway:

In the Finder (blue smiling face icon), locate the app you want to open.

Don’t use Launchpad to do this. Launchpad doesn’t allow you to access the shortcut menu.

Press the Control key and single-click the app icon, then choose Open from the shortcut menu.

    Click Open.

The app is saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it just as you can any registered app.
