Running Oracle Forms on an Intel Mac

Hi there,
My job requires me to access an application which has been written in Oracle Forms. Unfortunately, when I try to open the URL of the application, Safari and Firefox both complain. I tried the same operation via my Parallels Windows XP partition and noticed that it wants to install an ActiveX called 'Jinitiator'. I did some investigation on the net and found references to people being able to run Oracle Forms via a Classic program called 'Applet Runner'. Of course, on my Intel-based Macbook, I can't run that program! I installed the Mac OS X program 'Applet Launcher' from the XCode package and tried using that to access the Oracle Forms app but that didn't work 😟

I want to know, has anyone managed to run an Oracle Forms app on an Intel Mac and if so, how do I do it! My workaround is to use Windows XP via Parallels but it does eat into my machines performance and would love to be able to run the app natively.

Hi, aurora7795. Welcome to the Discussions.

I don't have an answer for you, but may be able to point you in the right direction...

Oracle's support for Oracle Forms on Mac OS X is stated here. That page indicates that Forms is supported at "Level 2" but that can mean that certain Forms apps may have to be reworked.

I suggest you search or post-to either of the following Oracle forums:

Apple: where it seems a number of questions about Oracale products and Mac OS X are answered.

Forms: where questions specific to Oracle Forms are answered.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info Dr. Smoke, I will investigate the issue further on those forums and if i get an answer there, I will report the answer here and resolve the question.

I have seen people mention that that the standard Java runtime should be able to handle Oracle forms (i.e. I should be able to just open the page in Safari or Firefox and it should just work). This has not been the case for me with my system but i wonder if anyone could point me at an example Oracle Forms program that they've seen work in Mac OS?

Ok - I've found an example Oracle Forms page on the net that can be used to check your Oracle Forms connectivity:

http://inbanner.oakland.edu/banner_ban7

I have been able to access this via both Safari and Firefox, leading me to believe my problem is due to the Mac-unfriendly nature of my employers program rather than a problem with my machine config. I will continue digging and resolve the question to answered if I get no further.
