Vintage?

My 13" macbook (Dec 2008 model) was working fine until last week when I spilled some water over the keyboard. Immediately I removed the power cord, shutdown the mac and removed battery. Never turned it on for the fear of damaging it further. Took it to apple genius bar and was told that my macbook is vintage and apple has stopped support. I asked him what should I do if my laptop doesn't turn on and he said I should buy a new one and he went along and suggested macbook pro is doing good recently. I was like WTH !!! How can apple stop servicing products within 5 years? It could be as simple as a $50 repair work and he wants me to buy a new one for 15 times the money !. Based on my past experience (and few of my colleagues & friends) macbook lasts much longer if maintained well. Mine was running like new, had no other issues and I was a very happy customer. I know that some people like to change laptop every 4-5 years as the hardware / configuration become outdated but not all of us want to. Does apple expect us to own

Finally got my macbook inspected in a local shop and found out that the logic board got fried. Had to replace it with a new one with a 3 months warranty 🙂. Though I thought of asking the person where he would get the new logic board from if apple has stopped supporting the model but I didn't. It could have been just a minor short and the local dealer might have fixed it but got away with a logic board swap and I had no way of validating his diagnosis.

Never imagined to own a vintage laptop. My understanding of vintage was different.!
