In Finder go to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. You ought to see all the Artist folders for all your music. Open a couple folders and view the contents of the Albums. You ought to see the music files.
yep, did that, all music files are back in iTunes library with no little cloud next to them. Now if I turn on Match again should it remain accessable on my hard drive or will it be moved to the cloud where I have to download when I want to listen?
I don't know what happened to the files on the internal HDD of your computer, but when iTunes Match is enable nothing is "moved to the cloud." It is all supposed to remain right where it was. You had something highly unusual happen.
Now that my frustration is eleviated and my music is all back where it should be, I no longer hate Match and suspect I may have inadvertantly deleted my library during a folder cleanup I performed about a month ago. Glad I keep backups...thanks for your help.
