From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
go to sfarari > preferences> and there is a button to uninstall vidx
I had the same problem and have spent ages trying to find a way to disable vidx which is an absolute nuisance - I am sure that anyone who has installed it will actively avoid products advertised in its pop ups
OMG, THANK YOU! This has been driving me bonkers for a few weeks now. Positive note though: made me clean my computer up by going through all the files and documents on my MacBook Pro hahahahhaaa... little bit of good came out of being computer illiterate! You're an absolute legend. Thanks again 🙂
Does anybody know where the vidx extension came from?
At some point you were likely told you needed the VidX extension to view a particular video and agreed to its installation.
For example (do not agree to install it!):
Thanks, I had just tracked that same site down. Been helping another user complaining of browser ads who must have fallen for it.
Both Avast! and Dr.Web believe it's a Trojan from VirusTotal.

Unless you run the Vidx app that's in the Applications folder which will just put it right back. Best to trash that, as well.
I suspect the OP has already taken care of this based on Linc's suggestion over two months ago.
God, so simple. It drove me razy for weeks. Thank you
Yes, but don't run the Vidx app or it will install it again. You need to trash that, as well.
Vidx is both scary and hideously annoying. it attached itself to my online banking.
If you are using Mac and Chrome, getting rid of it is very easy.
In Chrome, go to Preferences, then to Settings.
In the upper left you will see "extensions" as one choice, click that.
You will get to a list of your Extensions, and Vidx will be there, highlight it. To its right is a little trash can, click that. Restart and Vidx will be gone.
But again, you need to not run and preferably trash the Vidx app in you Applications folder or you will just reinstall it in all your favorite browsers.
Thank you, I missed that, and it is now duly eradicated from Applications and trashed. Obviously I rechecked the Extensions as well, it had remained extracted from Extensions. Again, thanks..
Thank You Thank You
