my iPod classic will not sync with iTunes, all my songs have also been wiped

I went to sync my ipod classic as I usually do, a message appeared saying there was a problem and needed to reset my ipod to factory settings, which I did and wiped the ipod, however I still can't sync my ipod to itunes! It still recognises the ipod in itunes but wont sync! what can I do?
