Hi can anyone tell me how can I tell the difference between ipad mini retainer display and the ipad mini???

FYI, the newer iPad has a retina display. "Retina" and "retainer" are two very different words with very different meanings.

Anyway, check the model identifier on the back of the iPad as shown here:
