I installed 10.9.2 today and am unable to start Google Chrome, Google Chrome Canary, or Skype. All 3 of them seem to be failling on the same piece of code ("FillInSystemVersionInfoFromString"). Has anyone else seen this issue? Could it be related to some other conflicting software? I don't see the issue with any other installed applications, and the same thing happens when I try starting the apps from a brand new user account. I also already tried to re-seat the 4 RAM sticks, no dice.

Just tried opening chrome after a safe boot and it works, still not sure what is causing it to crash during a normal login though.

  • drewkerrigan Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

After removing just about every launchagent / launchdaemon, and plugin with no success, I ended up just reinstalling OSX 10.9.2 from a usb drive and that fixed the issue.

  • z max Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    *** Apple?

You need to re-install the whole system, just because of using YOUR updates to keep the system safe?

Is there another fix yet available? I have the same issue here, this is ridiculous.

I know this sounds a bit harsh, but you can expect of a company the size of Apple to test their updates and products before shipping them to the market. Don't get me wrong here, I still like your products, but your software gets more and more buggy and prone to failure. Originally I bought your products, because I wanted a save, fast and fail proof system. In the beginning it was, but I keep discovering new bugs, even on the iPad, which is supposed to be a closed system, and with that testable.

I've got the same problem. I'm submitting an issue report at http://radar.apple.com.  I would recommend that others do the same - it seems to help get issues resolved for me.

  • Chucktr150 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Laneymv, u have to be an Apple Developer to submit an issue report at http://radar.apple.com

  • Chucktr150 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

z max, You got a point!

A number of things went sideways on my Macbook Pro with this update. Chrome crashes with every launch, Facetime can't find the camera, etc. If reinstalling the system is the only option that is just nuts!

Can we get an Apple tech here?!?!

  • Laneymv Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Chucktr150 - you do not have to be a developer to use the site.  I've been using it for years and I'm not a developer.  You simply use your Apple ID.  You may also try bug report.apple com.
