dvd player will not play menus in disc image

I've just completed 2 DL dvd's in dvd pro and when i open the .img files in DVD player, i can't access any of the menus: only the first track plays, for both images.

Details:

DVD Studio Pro 4

Dual Layer dvds, 1920 x1080 HD (videos were all made in Final Cut)

Disc's first play: menu 1

All of the tracks, menus, chapters etc have their remote control buttons set properly.

Simulation mode plays perfectly.

Built and formatted to create a disc image (.img) to test before I burn the actual dvds. (and keep as masters to burn more dvds later)

I mount the disc images on the desktop, and open them in dvd player ... but instead of opening at the 'first play' menu, they go directly to the first track. The title and menu buttons either don't do anything (not permitted) or restart the track (can't remember which button does what) ... and i can't access any of the menus, or the other tracks.

Question:

is this just a dvd player issue and should i ignore it?

do you think the imgs are safe enough to burn? or is it possible that the issue is with the img?

All input is welcome.

Thank you

Elizabeth

Well, not to address this issue, as I'm not sure even what you are doing (sorry), but I wanted to mention that DVDs authored in DVD SP that are HD...1920x1080...are authored in the HD DVD format...the format that lost the HD war to BluRay. The only things that can play back HD DVDs are 1) Apple computers with a Superdrive, 2) Toshiba HD DVD players and 3) X-Box game systems. That's it. Regular DVD players cannot...BluRay players cannot.

thank you for pointing that out ....

I knew that 😊 ... i even made a point of changing the disc to SD a few days ago ...sigh.

... so i just checked the project and sure enough, it's HD ... bet that's the problem after all.

I'll redo the projects again ... again (I've redone them so much this past week trying to get the size of one disc down so that i could get a proper layer break .... re-doing them is probably how it got set to HD).

Thank you for this ... i'll post an update.

okay, so I redid the dvd as an SD, dual layer ... all of the 7 videos fit, with 2 slideshows, at about 7.6 gb.

Finished all the connections, started a 'build' .... 7 hours later, after about 57%, DVDSP crashed.

Restarted DVDSP .... this time I did 'build & format' .... worked much faster , made it to about 59% before crashing.

Did it again ... crashed again.

So i shut down the computer for a few hours in case it was over heating.

This time just a 'build' ... crashed after 59%.

What's wrong?

The videos are in apple pro res 422,

the files are all on externals, and I'm formatting for a disc image, saving it to an external too. (the same one that holds half of the assets, but not all of them) ... oh, the DL break is set at automatic

Help!

Use Compressor to convert the ProRes422 files to m2v and ac3 BEFORE you start your Disc build. Use the DVD presets for 90 minutes best quality. This may take some time but will go faster if you set up a "quick cluster" in Apple Qmaster. (On the Digital Rebellion website there is a good How To on setting one up.)

Once the video and audio files for each of your clips is created, drag them into DVDSP as assets and use the converted files to replace the prores files in the timeline.

Then build and burn. Things will go much faster in Compressor.
