How can I transfer music on my iPod taken from my own cds and put it onto my new iPad?

Apart from buying tracks from iTunes I copied cds onto my iPod too. Can I somehow transfer these onto my new iPad? I don't have the original cds and can't find any library of them on my laptop - does this mean I can only access them on my iPod?
