What is wrong with my iPod Touch 5G?

I went to church and plugged my iPod 5G in to play music for a while. After that, I took it over to the drum set and plugged it into an audio chord. Nothing happened so I decided to put it into my pocket and play on the set for a while. I got up to walk around a little bit after practicing and wanted to check the time. I pressed the home button and nothing happened. It was full battery too. I pressed the sleep/wake button with the home button too. It was pretty hot in the back of it too kind of in the middle on both sides and in the camera region of the device. So I took it out and decided I would see if it would cool off. I got home and tried and tried to get it working. I put it in front of a fan, plugged it into my computer and the wall, NOTHING. It is just not working. It won't get detected in iTunes, it won't boot, it won't charge. I don't know what to do. This has been going on for 2 DAYS. I also put it into a bag of rice for a while and it still won't do anything. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! I just got it.

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try another cable

- Try on another computer

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I do not know Walmarts trade in policy. You can ask Walmart.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for the 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

Apple - iPod Repair price

You can do the exchange at an Apple store or send it to Apple

I am working with some of the steps above right now. I have it in another computer. Could it be that my iTunes is not updated far enough? There is an available update. Maybe that would help detect it. It still won't turn on. But a question, How do you know if your iPod is in DFU mode if it is already off? And how much more battery you have left in DFU? I also asked the guy who is in charge of the instruments, he uses that audio jack all of the time with his iPhone and it works perfectly fine.

I had the same problem twice in my ipod touch 5g ios 7.0.4. Please reboot the device by pressing the home and power buttons at the same time until the device reboots. My device was jailbroken (HAHAHAHAHA) lol but anyway if you long press the home button the siri is still active so the device is still on but it will not function. Hope this helps.

That's the problem dude, the iPod gets hot, the battery is highly flammable. I am not going to hold the buttons until my hands get burnt off. It's most likely a hardware problem. I might as well just smash it with a hammer. Apple is going to charge more many then what I paid for the iPod. If that's the case, I might as well say screw it and buy a new one. I think I will stick with a 6th Generation Classic iPod instead of the new ones that break down by simply plugging it in. It is still in the same state. Just sitting there. Untouched, black screen. Totally dead. That thing is a piece of crap.
