Is there a way to cancel applecare?

I sent my iPod mini in for battery replacement and received an email from apple stating that, "The repair of your iPod has been placed on hold at the Apple repair center due to damage on the product's casing." (That tiny piece of white plastic at the bottom of the was missing)

I unfortunately made the mistake of spending $80 on applecare, I know this sounds stupid but is there any way to cacncel apple care or register it for another ipod?
