Problems with CISCO VPN Client 4.9.00 (0050)

I can't seem to successfully connect my MacBook Pro using CISCO VPN Client 4.9.00 (0050). I manually set up my companies "Connection Entries" using the same information off of my old PowerBook G4 (which connects just fine) and when I try to connect I see it trying to contact the security gateway, but then it just stops and reads "Not Connected". Has anyone had any luck connecting using the MacBook Pro and CISCO?

Tunneling protocol(s) enabled in the concentrator, and transparent tunneling settings in the Transport tab of the client have everything to do with whether a particular config works or not.

Particular networks may not permit some tunneling protocols (L2TP, PPTP, IPSEC), and firewalls are a major issue as clients may not be configured to work around some firewalls (NAT-T {IPSEC over TCP} vs IPSEC over UDP).

I have had no problems with 4.9.00.0500 with my configs with either Intel or recent PPC macs in 10.4.7

Check your client config, or better yet get a config file from the VPN admin.

I wish I had the email address for llcrowe. I have had the same problem of connecting to my home wireless (2Wire, Home Portal 1800HG) with SBC Yahoo. I have three Dells that use the wireless without a problem. But the new Mac? NADA. Very frustrating and very unhappy with Apple tech support.

If llcrowe (or anyone else) has been able to get the connection with this router, let me know.

I am a brand new (three days) Mac user without much tech depth.

I just purchased my MacBook two days ago and am having the same problem. I have used PC's for years but was really impressed with Mac when I saw the MacBook. The main reason I purchased it was to have the flexibility of a Mac but the ability to connect to Windows for work. I have installed VPN Client which was given to me from work but none of the technicians there are "Mac people" and don't know how to help me. Can someone walk me through the process of connecting? When I click connect it just sits there saying "Initializing the IPSec link..." and won't do anything else. Thanks!

I am having the same issue bought mac yesterday. When I went to the apple store today they tried to tell me it wasn't there problem. I have been fighting with at&t and apple for two days now even bought a new router and it still doesn't work! Only the mac does not work, I have another PC computers working fine on the wireless connection. I was even told to downgraade my operating system ( on a new mac ), due to this issue! At this point I am exhausted with dealing with apple and at&t. Someone needs to figure this out!

I had a genius today tell me to go home it was not there problem.

I was on the phone for six hours between apple and at&t and still got nowhere.

I really would love a solution!

Thanks,

I had a similar problem with the Cisco VPN client... and may have a solution for you.

At home, I have a router that provides private IP addresses via network address translation (NAT). At home my network was giving out addresses in the 192.168.1.xxx range. (You can view this in your Network pane in system preferences)

As it turned out, SO DID MY employer. That is, when connected to their network via VPN, they also used private addresses. If you look on a machine that did successfully connect, click in the box on the lower right of the VPN client screen to toggle through the the IP address issued by the VPN server (the one that toggles between Connect Time / Bytes In Out / IP address).

Apparently there's a bug in the Mac version (that was corrected in an earlier PC release) that prevents traffic from passing when your router and the VPN concentrator are on the same address scheme.

I changed my router to hand out 10.0.0.xxx addresses instead and everything works fine now.

Let me know if it works out for you!

I have the same problem also. I believe there was some down load that messed things up. Only my apples (2 laptops) can not get out on the internet. The Windows systems seems to be working just fine (Bet Windows would like to use this problem as a commercial) smile.

The funny thing is that I can ssh, telnet, ftp, and VNC in and out, but they will not go out to the internet. When I do the diagnostic, all the lights go green excpet the Internet and Server lights. I plug a windows system right next to it on a switch and it goes right out to the Internet with no problems. I have a Netgear 318FVS router and I even plugged into the cable modem direct on the LAN side with the same issues.

Like you my ISP said it was not their problem and I have triple checked the settings inside the modem. My only hope now is that someone on the apple team will take notice and try and figure this out.

Hi, I was woundering if you could help me...

I have a macbookpro fully updated and working good.

I would like to connect to my office VPN and be able to connect to the server and get e-mail (whick is on web-outlook)

I have the VPN login information and I'm able to connect using internet connection (the the application folder)

I'm not sure how to connect to the server, how and where I need to go to find the files. Do I need to install additional software?

Thank you for all of your help in advance. I look forward to hearing from you.
