Aperture 3.5 no longer syncs to Flickr?!

This is really weird. I recently upgraded from OS X 10.8.5 to 10.9.2, and from Aperture 3.4.2 (whatever was most current under Mountain Lion) to Aperture 3.5.1. Today I tried dragging a photo from my Aperture library to the Flickr icon under "Shared," and the drag is possible, but the photo is not uploaded. I've tried resynching the entire account, and the sync arrows appear -- but nothing really happens. I don't see any of the usual sync threads in the Activity Monitor, either.

Any idea as to what could be wrong?

Does it work, when you ctrl-click the image instead and use "Share > Flickr" instead of dragging? This is still working for me.

Yes and no. I see the uploaded photo in my Flickr set in Aperture, but if I go to the Flickr web site, the photo isn't there! 😟

Can you upload to Flickr using the web interface?

(just to check, if a firewall, anti virus software, or something is interfering with the access to Flickr).

Hi Léonie,

I disabled, then reenabled my Flickr account in Aperture, and now uploading works via "Share > Flickr". But it still doesn't work by dragging files to the "Flickr" icon in the sidebar; in fact, Aperture seems to interpret the drag as one to the Photostream icon (i.e. I see the sync icon appear briefly next to it).

Are you seeing the same problem with the drag to the Flickr icon?

Works fine. But you're seeing problems with Flickr in Aperture 3.5?

Only, when my network is unresponsive. Then timeouts may prevent the upload.

Do you have more than one Flickr set? When I drag to the Flickr icon, a dialog will popup and ask which set to use. Do you have more than one set, and does this dialog panel show?

I do have more than one set, and the problem is that whereas under OS X 10.8.5./Aperture 3.4.5 dragging pictures to the Flickr icon caused the panel to appear, this is no longer the case since upgrading to 10.9.2 / Aperture 3.5.1.

I'd try to remove the preferences, if GUI items do not show, that should be showing.

Quit Aperture and remove the the file

~/Library/Preferences/apple.com.Aperture.plist from your user library, see the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics on how to do this.

With Mavericks, also remove the sandbox: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Aperture/

Restart the system after removing these fies, before you launch Aperture again.

Your user library may still be hidden. The user library can be revealed starting from the Home folder.

You can open the Home folder by pressing the house-icon in the sidebar, or use the Finder's "Go" menu, or the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘H

With the Home folder selected, press ⌘J and enable the Library in the Finder's Preferences.

Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to

~/Library/Preferences

and remove your plist.

Caution: After removing the preferences files you will need to set all settings again, that you entered using the preferences pael. Also, Aperture will no longer remember the library you last opened. Open your aperture library again by double clicking it in the Finder.

You may be misreading my post. All the GUI items show, but dragging photos to the Flickr icon acts like I've dragged them to the iCloud/Photostream icon! (without any upload occurring, though)

That is what I thought. The GUI is responding incorrectly.

Did you restart after removing the preferences? Otherwise aperturemay simply restore the cached old files.

For me, uploading to Flickr is really working well.

And you can reach Flickr, as your test with the "Share" menu is showing.

Try, if the Aperture library is the problem by uploading from a different library.

OK, this is really odd:

1. With a new library, dragging to the Flickr icon works fine.

2. With my current library, dragging only works if iCloud photo stream is disabled.

I have determined that this problem arises immediately after my Aperture Library is upgraded from the 3.4.5 format to the 3.5.1 format. I opened a backup (dating from before I upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks) of my Aperture Library with Aperture 3.4.5 --> no problem. I opened the same backup with Aperture 3.5.1, allowed Aperture to convert the library, and then dragging photos to the Flickr icon cause the Photostream sync to begin and do not upload to Flickr.

If I create a new library, then the problem doesn’t occur, so the problem must be somewhat specific to my library. I’ve tried repairing permissions and repairing the database, to no avail. Again, the problem didn’t exist before the conversion to the Aperture 3.5.1 format.

Then backup the library and rebuild it - the last option of the first aid tools .
