my ipad will not respond to touch to unlock

Try resetting it. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and see if that helps.

If the reset and restore won't bring it back, then it is probably time to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out. There may be something physically wrong inside.
