How do I Disable keychain on Mac

For some reason keychain has taken over my life and is now preventing me from logging into Mail, iCloud and most annoyingly iMessage keeps saying it can't connect and enter password?? Entering relevant passwords but to no avail!,

Help please! Life was so much easier without keychain!

Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Open system prefs and select iCloud.

Untick Keychain, it will ask for your Apple ID. Input that.

This should switch it off. If you want to reset it and then not enable it. Retick Keychain, it will ask for your Apple ID. Input it. It will then ask for your Security code. At this point, click reset Keychain, follow the prompts through, deleting from Mac or not as per your preference. Once you reach the point where it asks you to set up a new code, cancel out of this. Job done.

Keychain will remain off until you want to start it up again. Any details other than Credit Card or web passwords will remain in your Utilities Keychain, depending on whether your deleted them from your Mac or not. They will be listed under the header Local and not iCloud within the Keychain app in your Utilities folder.

Alternatively,

If it is the Keychain app in Utilities that is causing you trouble. There is the option to reset that, but be aware that this erases ALL passwords, including passwords for mail etc, certificates (if you have any), wifi etc. And you will have to re-input your passwords accordingly.

It does however offer you a clean slate to start from.

Hi R,

Thanks for the advice, managed to set up a new keychain and drop the "local" one, this has given me iMessage and Facetime back online however still unable to load mail accounts for some reason - including icloud mail account?

Also after restart when i log in a new window (i haven't seen before) pops up witht the "OS X wants to use keychain "local", please log in to "local ?? just when i thought i had resolved the issue.

do you know if this is linked in with the inablility to load mail accounts?

Appreciate the help!

Kind Regards

T
