Samething happened to me. Follow Linc Davis instructions, ran Thomas_r's TSMART.zip because my system is older that 10.7 and nothing is working to get rid of this mess in Safari. I did not have any extension is Safari Preferences therefore nothing to delete. I did not have any of the adware names that Linc Davis instructions mentioned and Thomas_r fix unfortunately didn't work either for MY problem. I clicked on one of the adds cause I figured I had little to lose and I got a pop up window telling me PJS-4.2 was installed and that I could suppress the add for 24hrs or I could remove it from Safari Extensions but I have no Safari extensions showing up at all. When this problem first occured, I was prompted to call a 1-855 number immediately. I also saw a post on this community describing sort of my problem that that folks should call an 1-855 number for help and I believe Apple support was supposed to be who you would be calling. I did not call the number and the post was added less than an hour ago.

No, this is not the same thing at all. No adware is involved. This is a scam javascript pop-up, pure and simple. There is nothing permanently installed on your computer that needs to be removed.

See Tech support scam pop-ups from thomas_r.

You have two different things going on here. First, as MadMacs0 indicates, you have gotten onto a scam page that is trying to get you to call a scam phone number. See the links he referred you to with regard to that message.

The other is adware. This PJS-4.2 adware is very new, and appears to be part of the Buca Apps adware. This would not be covered by the TSM Adware Removal Tool. Since you're running too old a system to use AdwareMedic, you'll find manual removal instructions here:

Wow, I tried several of the procedures mentioned in this thread. I was afraid to download anything new since most of the nasty ads were from companies that said they would fix my problem. But finally one of MadMacs0 posts changed my mind & I downloaded AdMedic & poof the mess was gone! Thank you both. And I donated; you do a great service!

A

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.

This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.mars.agent.plist

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

Repeat with each of these lines:

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.mars.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.mars.helper.plist

Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:

/Library/Application Support/mars
/System/Library/Frameworks/v.framework

The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.

This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.

In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.

Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked

Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)

or

Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)

if it's not already checked.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

B

You also installed the "Crossrider" trojan. Take the steps below to disable it.

Back up all data before continuing.

1. Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

~/Library/LaunchAgents

In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder named "LaunchAgents" will open.

2. Inside the folder you just opened, there may be files with any of the following names:

com.crossrider.wss*.agent.plist

flashmall_updater.plist

flashmall_updater.sh

com.webhelper.plist

com.webtools.update.agent.plist

WebSocketServerApp

Here * stands for a variable six-digit number. Some of these files may be absent. Move any that you have to the Trash and close the Finder window. Log out or restart the computer. The trojan will now be inactive, but there are a few more components of it that should be cleaned up.

3. Do as in Step 1 with this line:

~/Library/Application Support

A folder named "Application Support" will open. Inside it there may be a subfolder with this name:

webHelperApp

If so, move that subfolder—not the "Application Support" folder—to the Trash.

4. Finally, open this folder in the same way as above:

~/Library

Look for a subfolder with this name:

WebTools

and move it to the Trash, if present. Finally, empty the Trash.

C

Your Safari extension is malicious and should be removed in the Extensions pane of the Safari preferences window:

Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use those. Never install any extension with the words "Spigot," "Conduit," or "Trovi" in the description.

D

"ZipCloud" is some sort of cloud-storage service with a doubtful reputation. The OS X client is sometimes distributed along with malware. Although ZipCloud may not be malicious itself, it should be deemed suspect by virtue of the company it keeps.

To remove ZipCloud, start by backing up all data (not with ZipCloud itself, of course.)

Quit the application, if it's running, and drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.jdibackup.ZipCloud.autostart.plist

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Trash.

In the same folder, there may also be a file named

com.jdibackup.ZipCloud.notify.plist

Move that to the Trash as well.

Log out or restart the computer and empty the Trash.

1. The only people who will ever see your posting are those that might still be monitoring this thread. You will always find faster help from more troubleshooters by starting a new thread completely describing what you issues are, including screenshots where appropriate. You have not said anything about your problem so you force us to guess it might have something to do with adware.

2. I see evidence of other issues, but the only thing that might relate to Adware is your use of Avast!. See Avast installs adware!

3. I doubt that you need any A-V software, but if you do there are better choices.

You installed the "Crossrider" trojan. Take the steps below to disable it.

Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of today, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.

2. Inside the folder you just opened, there may be files with any of the following names:

com.crossrider.wss*.agent.plist

com.webhelper.plist

com.webtools.update.agent.plist

flashmall_updater.plist

flashmall_updater.sh

Remove the worthless Norton/Symantec product by following these instructions. If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different.
