I am trying to downlaod an .ai template, but an error message shows up saying that the file can't be saved as a pdf because of a postscript conversion error. Is there a way to fix this?

Are you able to download the file at all? If so, does it open in Illustrator at all? If you can open it, try making a new file in Illustrator and then copy/paste the contents of the original file into the new one. You may also want to try saving the original as an EPS file. The original was probably saved as a PDF with Illustrator editing enabled and something has gone wrong with the PDF's internal PostScript code; the Illustrator version within the file may still be OK.
Thanks for your suggestions. Not sure what the problem was, but was able to download the files on a PC, then email them to me on my mac. It worked.
