RIP QuickOffice; best Dropbox/MS Office compatible office suite for iOS?

Hi all:

I used to use QuickOffice Pro on my iPad and iPhone and was very satsified with it. I don't do a lot of content creation or editing on those devices but it was nice to be able just pick one of them up and make a few tweaks or additions if I needed to, wherever I was. Now Google has gutted the app, getting rid of all the features that made it useful to me, so I'm wondering what other alternatives there are out there.

The #1 thing I'd need is Dropbox integration, since that's where all my documents are, which sadly excludes the iWorks app. I know about DropDAV, but $5/month is a bit much for a service that I'd probably really only use only once or twice a month. I don't mind paying for an app, but I don't wan a subscription fee.

Right now I have DocumentsToGo, which is what I used before QuickOffice, but I just don't like it very much. I think the interface is ugly and awkward and the formatting always looks wonky and I worry about it getting botched when it saves. Any other ideas would be helpful!

Thanks in advance,

jf

I actually have this same question. I've been using Polaris Office that I got half price for £4.99 in the New Year. This synchs well with Dropbox, but I find it quite clunky and it destroys the paragraph formatting when you save it back to Dropbox, which is annoying.

Upon a suggestion from a friend, I tried Office2 HD, which I quite like. The only downside is that you have to pay separately for iPhone and iPad versions, but all told $13 isn't too bad for an office suite.

picas -- I'm quite familiar with iCloud and need more than it can offer, which is why I said up top that I needed Dropbox. There's no way to make Dropbox and iWork work together except with some irritating hacks or paying for a third-party service.

Hi,

I might have some good news for you. The Quickoffice app still works perfectly with Dropbox but only if you have the older version of app (the version before Google's "light" version).

Just install the old version on your iDevices again. When trying to link the app to Dropbox you will get a "server error" pop-up message saying that Dropbox syncing is no longer supported. Just repeat the linking steps and it will link to Dropbox without a problem.

You will get the same "server error" pop-up when trying to copy a file to or from Dropbox for the first time. Just repeat the copy steps again and your files will then copy to and from Dropbox without any problems.

I have been using Quickoffice linked to Dropbox & Box since Google supposedly shut down this ability on 04/01/2013. I got a new iPhone and iPad about 3 weeks ago and I sucessfully installed the Quickoffice app and linked to Dropbox on both. The iPhone's app version is 4.1.1 and on the iPad it is: 4.5.0.

I did find it strange that Google could stop me from linking to Dropbox on MY devices from an app version that was released prior to them buying Quickoffice. Turns out they could not. Just scare tactics to get everyone's data in Google Drive. And it is precisely for this reason I do not use ANY of Google's apps or services....

Hope this helps.

I used to use the payed version of Quickoffice HD too. Dropbox functionality doesn't work anymore.

The newer (free) Quickoffice app only supports Google Drive, no other cloud services like Dropbox, which is no surprise: Google bought Quickoffice in 2012.

So I started looking for alternatives and found Kingsoft Office (free app 🙂), offers integration with cloud services:

- Dropbox

- Google Drive

- OneDrive

- Box

- WebDAV

Seems to offer us for free everything what payed Quickoffice once offerd us

@Diavonex:

Yes you're right, but only in a very limited way: you can share a MS office file from Quickoffice/Google Drive to Dropbox. Nothing else as far as I can see.

So you can't view/edit the MS Office files in your Dropbox account directly from Quickoffice anymore like in the old days 😟

Now Google has pulled Quickoffice completely from the market, so when I searched I got a bunch of MS Office compatible tools I had never heard of. Google is recommending you download each of their 3 tools Docs, Sheets, and Slides, which I did. I also downloaded Microsoft's Word and Excel only to find that I need an Office 365 Subscription to use them. I will look at some of the other ones mentioned here. I do some pretty advanced stuff in Excel, like protecting fields and creating "data entry forms", so I may just go ahead and pay for the Microsoft Office 365, especially if I can use it on multiple devices. Maybe I'll update later with how the MS Office stuff works and you guys can convince me I can use one of the $9.99 or $13 options instead.
