Mar 5, 2014 7:43 AM in response to zlottby Johnb-one,try this-go to system preferences, then print and fax, at the bottom where you add printer, option click on the plus until you see "reset printing system". maybe delete printer from there and add it. we don't know what version of OS X you have or the model of printer, so I can't help you a whole lot. Maybe run disk utility and repair permssions? Don't know how to delete and remake another user account, you'd have to log in as administrator for that
good luck

Mar 5, 2014 9:55 AM in response to zlottby Grant Bennet-Alder,"Smart" Printers such as networkable Postscript Printers use standard protocols and are quickly found and shown as available Printers to be added. In the worst case, you use the Printer's IP Address to configure them if they cannot be found by name.
"Dumb" Printers often need you to run the manufacturer's Utility to discover and pre-configure them, since they are using proprietary communication methods. They cannot be discovered otherwise. Check with the manufacturer to determine how to run this Utility.
