Trying to prep and sort out my questions, nearest Apple store is 45min away so hoefully I won't wear out people here with questions.
I don't have alot of things to transfer from my pc but I am a little confused about being able to transfer my word docs and templates and have them work properly. I don't want to add Microsoft to the Mac if there is no need but I will if I have to.

You have 90 days of free telephone support from Apple and they can assist you doing that task. You can locate the phone number by clicking the AppleCare Contact Info.
There are many methods available to you including using Migration Assistant, moving the documents from you PC to an external HD and then connecting the EHD to your iMac and dragging from teh EHD to the iMac. AppleCare can help with any of these methods.

I appreciate the quick and useful info, I'm also trying to navigate around the forums some to glean also. I think as a service Apple will help transfer set up your computer, just have to bring in everything and leave it for a few days or so, could be worth the one on one service to have them set me up and show me some basics of how things work. I've owned an iphone and ipad fro awhile so not totally foreign.

The AS will do everything for you during the one on one workshop. It's all free! You can either walk in or call to set up an appointment.

You can use LibreOffice or Apple Pages with Word documents. There could be compatibility problems, that depends on how complex you files are. Only answer is to try them, LibreOffice is free, I think The cost of Pages is much less than MS Office.

If I want to use all of my Word doc functions, and run them simutaniously on the new Mac would I just buy and install Microsoft 7 as well as Paralell? My old machine has XP and my wife has alot of teplates she uses for her business and is not very good with change so will she be able to continue working on these with minimal changes?

I would vote for that direction. If she must use all those templates and so forth. Then if she's comfortable with it, she can jump on using the Mac OS for everything else!
