Q: LG HBS-730 volume too loud on iPhone 5s

Sorry, as this is probably a repost.  My other post seems to be blank?

I've got the above BT headset, and it sounds wonderful.

However, it's simply too loud.  Even on the lowest setting.  My old BT headset used to have a volume control which was independent of the iPhone 5s BT volume setting.  I've seen notes online that the 730 does as well, but I can't seem to get it to do anything other than affect the iPhone 5s volume and not its own.

Any thoughts?

I'm currently running 7.0.6.

Thanks

I use my phone A LOT for phone calls and find that the headset is entirely too loud for a lot of calls, even with the volume all the way down. For music, I usually use Spotify, and can control the sound level through the app with much better success than the Music app or with phone calls.

Still, it is incredibly annoying that I can't turn the volume down further than I can on phone calls. So I spoke with LG's customer service today, they blamed iPhone's sound chip. In fairness, the headphones work great on every other device (iMac, iPhone 4, Samsung Galaxy Note & Samsung Galaxy). This is a transcript of the chat:

Clark: Hello Adam. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A. Support only. How may I provide you with excellent service today?

Clark: hi how are you adam?

Adam: Hello, i am pairing my headphones with my iPhone 5 and they are just entirely too loud during phone calls, even with the volume as low as it can go

Adam: is there a work around?

Clark: okay its basically the sound chip of the ihpone5

Clark: i have the same issue adam as well

Clark: let me see what i can do

    Clark: hang on alright>?

    Adam: ok

    Adam: thanks

Clark: its okay bear with me

Clark: even thou the volume on your phone is on the lowest volume.

    Adam: yes

Clark: well i already read the manual for hbs-730

Clark: the only option for lowering down the volume is through the headset on to the phone.

Clark: if you notice adam if you try your headset on a sony xperia or samsung it has a lot of difference.

    Adam: i know

Adam: so it's only with iphones?

Adam: but there is no way to make it quieter?

Clark: an app but only apple would suggest that i am not allowed to since it is not within lg preferences anymore.

    Adam: ok

Clark: and this chat is recorded.

    Clark: give you the name

    Clark: volume enhancer

Clark: i think it was sound enhancer.

Adam: i'll have to look and do research

Adam: but thanks for looking into it

Clark: apple can help you trust me.

Not incredibly helpful but at least they are acknowledging the issue. Still, no advice for a work around. I'll talk to Apple Care soon and see if they have advice, but I doubt I'll get anywhere since this is not a supported apple product.

I have the same issue with only the phone volume.  The challenge for me is that the volume is so loud that I cannot use it for calls.  Everything about the HBS-730 device I really like and I have good volume control on the music.  I would think that since this issue continues to be reported back into 2011/2012 that Apple would do some QC testing and address this issue.  I may have to send this back, but I have not seen anything out there that would be a good replacement.

yep, same here.  I just switched from a Samsung GalaxyS3 to an iPhone6.  LG Tone+ 730 headset.  All worked fine with this setup on the Galaxy.  On the iPhone, with music I have complete control to turn the volume as low as I want.  All good there.  But for calls, even on the lowest volume setting, it is WAY too loud.  Quite frankly, I have become more attached to this bluetooth headset than the differences between an iPhone and a Galaxy phone, so running into this issue is very disappointing to me.  Grrr.  I have spent alot of time looking for a solution that doesn't involve getting rid of either the headset or the phone.

anyone know if this issue has been corrected yet?  my 3+ year old 700's died over the weekend and all the knockoffs are just not as good as the LG's.

I don't even care about the price anymore - I just want BT headphones that work as well as my 700's did.

I am a long time fan of the LG bluetooth headphones; used it on almost all my electronics.  The volume issue is a real nuisance to me ever since I upgraded the HBS-700 to HBS-730.  After long research online about possible solution, the only one that seemed promising was downloading an equalizer app (https://appsto.re/us/1dWuU.i).  However, not all my musics on my iPhone 5s are accessible through iTune so the equalizer app would provide only partial solution.  Besides, the volume issue still exists when making phone calls.  So I came up with this less-than-elegant way to solve the problem.  Instead of going back and forth debating whether it's the software and/or hardware compatibility and such, I simply stuffed a bit of putty into the tiny hole in the rubber earbud- kind of "sealing" the hole in the rubber earbuds where sound came out (the white part shown on the photo).  It dramatically lowered the volume coming from the headset into my ears!  I know this definitely is not the technical way but finally my eardrums can chill a bit.  The putty I used was the Velcro Brand Power Putty but only because I have some in hand.  Most likely other brand of putty would work as well.  image.jpeg

I may have found a solution. Like others, the volume is outrageously loud. Out of desperation, I looked in the HBS 730 manual, and found a mention of pressing the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons at the same time. It Worked! Other than the "Power On" and "Pairing" messages, the volume now seems to be working as expected. I'm delighted!
