Q: mac book pro mid 2010 crashes on easy tasks

Please, this is crazy! I am so f**king angry right now!

It is the 10th time today that this f**king machine crashes because of a simple task like opening a folder in a finder window or just now, sending an e-mail.

This is stupi and has to stop!

 

Many other user experiencing similar issues and even hardware replacements haven’t stopped this.

 

The Genius’es say it is the Nvidia graphics card and it crashes while switching from one to another card.

But why than is Photoshop working, watching Videos on YouTube and the machine breaks down on easy tasks like opening a folder from a finder window.
Several time it has crashed while clicking on the Reply or Send button in Mail.

 

I am running the latest OS X 10.9.2 on an MacBook Pro 15" mid 2010, 2.66 GHz i7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB

    You have a defective GPU just as you've been told. One suggested workaround is to use gfxCardStatus 2.3 to only use the GT330 GPU and not use the 9400 (or maybe vice-versa.)

    That's how that problem behaves. I had it on mine. You can try installing gfxstatus and forcing the graphics to Intel full time. That may help.

    I tried gfxCardStatus but can not use Creative Cloud when I switched to Integrated.
    Have turned off the AGS in the Energy Saving system options.
    Have turned off the compressor through Terminal.

    I think we've given you both reasons and options. There is not need to post panic logs, etc. Read the suggestions we've made and act accordingly.

    That panic is just confirming what the Genius Bar told you. It's the GPU. You may be eligible for a depot repair, which is around $310. You can ask them about that. Also, someone posted this as a possible repair source, I believe it was Clinton from Birmingham.

    You're well past the 3 years mentioned at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4088

    but nonetheless, I'd call Apple customer service (or speak to the store manager first) & ask that they consider your case. Several users here have previously got free repairs after doing so, even though outside the time limit.
