Yes, and the power supply is universal so all you need to do is get an adapter for the plug to fit the UK outlet, or buy a replacement power cord in the UK.

The iMac 8.1 does have WiFi but you will still need a WiFi base station or wireless router unless you connect via Ethernet cable.

If connected via a cable, the iMac can act as a base station for other WiFi devices (such as iPads) if you enable WiFi Internet sharing in the Sharing system preference.

You are very welcome...took a whiile to get back in here, though...the bane of being a user-to-user forum and other commitments

All Apple computers since around 2006 come with builtin wireless so all that is needed is a means of accessing the internet in the residence or office.  While the user can get by with a modem to connect with and then generate a wireless signal at the iMac, that is not an efficient way to operate.  Really serves more as a short term way to fill a need.  Using a wireless router attached to the modem or as a mofem/router provides a much better signal, more channels to use, more flexibility for your network.  While I have done the Mac-produced wireless, it was always only to fill a short-term need.

If you have cable access of some form, but do not have a wireless router, there are dozens of options open to you.  Apple makes a very good AirPort Extreme router, they also make the Time Capsul combination router and large exernal hard drive setup.  With that you get the router and a backup hard drive in the same box...or cyclinder

If you are just beginning setting up a network, be sure to ask for advice so you can minimize problems and ensure compatibility of all components.
