I have a Power mac G4 and I'm trying to upgrade it so I can transfer it to a new Imac

I just purchaseda new Imac and am trying to transfer data from my old PowerMac G4 that has ssytem 10.5.8

When following the prompts from the new Imac it asked me to open Migration assistant which I did.

The new computer found the old but there was a yellow triangle with an excamation point in it, I clicked that and it said I needed to update the old computer to a newer version.

That's where I'm stuck.

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), G4

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5872 says

Migration Assistant in Mavericks is compatible with OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.8 or later. If you are migrating from an earlier version of OS X, update your older computer first, or manually copy your data from one computer to another.

You cannot upgrade your Mac to 10.6.8 so you will have to transfer the data manually as indicated in the linked page.
