BootCamp Full Driver List Working.

I have finished getting Windows Xp to fully work with all devices detected and installed and here are the links to the specific driver you need to get everything working. Including Sound.

Also on a side note you dont need to use bootcamp to resize your partition as long as you dedicate another Hardrive to windows you can just shove in the windows install disk and partition that with fat and ntfs and however you like just make sure not toouch the Mac disk.

I've repeated the operation three times and got three
identical emails.

Did you meet the same problem ?

No I didn't get anything like that, however we have a 100MBps internet connection at work so things tend to work better regarding downloads at that speed in my experience.

If you got the file downloaded in the required size range and have a partial e-mail, my suggestion would be to call the x64 division at Microsoft and see if you can get a CD key directly from them by either:

1. Sending your partial e-mail to someone there to "prove" you're legitimate, or
2. Just asking them to give you a CD key.

When I called the x64 folks at M$ someone picked up the phone immediatly and was as helpful as his knowledge permitted (I don't think the 64 bit division is very busy at M$).

Another thing to be wary of is the international situation you're in. Since the implementation of BIG BROTHER, i.e. "homeland security" here in the States, there are a lot of hoops to jump through when trying to distribute software internationally.

Read the webpage and newsgroups carefully and see if anyone has experienced the same problems.

It could also simply be they had server problems that day and the message jut couldn't go through.

I'd really just try and call them, I know you'll be up late, but it's worth it to get SolidWorks up and running.

Tell me what program your trying to use, I'm curious.

Hi MSW,

Thanks for your reply.

I didn't have the possibility to download anything since the link to download is supposed to be within the email...

I've tried three more times and gave up upon the sixth same result.

Which program I'm trying to use ? 64 bits are not a lot ...

I still have my PCs and I've installed Vista RC1 on athlon 64 3500+ SLI 2 Go, but Capture NX doesn't work so I wanted to install XP 64 although NX is a 32 bits appli.

Did you find XP 64 bits applis ?

Thanks,

Peloche

Okay,

I've gone to the page for you, selected France as my location (hopefully the link will be to the French version) and am getting the e-mail sent to me. When I get back to work on Monday, I'll forward it to your e-mail address. You'll have to give it out on this post, but I don't think you'll be in too much danger.

Give me until Monday and I'll get you your x64 by hook or by crook.

Yes, I do have a 64 bit application...SolidWorks x64 as stated previously. I've never heard of Capture NX.

As an alternative, have you considered:

1. Installing the 32 bit XP version on your machine, I believe the 64 bit processor doesn't care if it's run slower.

2. Try telling Vista RC to run the program in compatability mode for XP or W2K versions. You can do this by right-clicking on the program *.exe file, selecting properties, selecting the compatibility tab at the top and checking the box "run this program in compatibility mode for:"

By using XP x64 you will find a serious lack of driver support available for your hardware. For example, I own a Microsoft Trackball Optical mouse and Microsoft doesn't even make a driver for it on the x64 OS.

Hope this helps. Post your e-mail.

Hi MSW,

Thanks for this, I do understand your nickname now...

I made some more tries with different email addresses and ... get the same emails troncated always at the same letter or no emails at all...you could send to lionpeloche2004 at yahoo dot fr.

SolidWorks seems to be a very interesting and powerfull design software, it's a pity that they don't have a Mac 64 version (for you, not for me...).

Capture NX is a 32 bits Photo imaging appli from Nikon

Thanks for your advice for NX, I got it to run under Vista RC1 with your help and "Program Compatibility Wizard" option "run this program as an administrator", compatibility mode for XP SP2 didn't work although I had it running 2 weeks ago.

I did install it when it first came out months ago and yes drivers were missing, it should be better now.

I am glad I found your posts. I wanted to know how you got XP x64 installed? When i put my cd in I get an error that says

"attempting to load an x64 operating system however this cpu is not compatible with x64 mode. please install a 32-bit x86 operating system."

I am on a new macbook pro and using an OEM copy of Windows Professional XP x64.

I would love any ideas
Thanks

Well that's a puzzler. I thought the MacBook Pro was supposed to be 64bit. I assume you started the BootCamp program in Mac OSx and it recocnized your CD?

If I were to guess (and I have to because I don't have a MacBook Pro) I would have to assume that the chipset drivers need to be installed before the OS tries to load (via slipstream fix mentioned by my original post).

However, I've looked at the literature on your computer on Apple's website and did not find mention that the processors are in FACT 64bit. I'm quite sure an Apple fanboy could correct me if I'm wrong, but it could be that the processors are 32bit?

If this is the case then obviously the XP x64 is a no-go.

It would be helpful if you described the procedure you implemented when trying to install XP x64.

I have more than a passing interest in this fix as well, since I'm considering purchasing the same computer for traveling and will need SolidWorks on the road with me.

After posting the reply to your question, I did some searching and found that the MacBook Pro was supposed to ship with 64bit processors ing Sep 2006 (according to this article: http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/01/11/meromto_be_launched_inseptember/
and this forum:
http://digg.com/apple/Dont_Buy_a_Macbook_Pro_or_IntelImac)

Check the date code on the computer, call Apple and confirm that your processors are 64bit. What you find out will tell you if it's possible to load XP x64. If I were a bettin man, I'd wager on it being a 32bit processor.

Just a quick thankyou to the forum. It provided me with some useful pointers!

Still a few drivers missing but have enough working to suit my needs.

XP x64 WILL install under bootcamp on a new core 2 duo macbook following the procedures in this forum. In particular MacSolidWorks.

x64 wil not work on Parallels (at the moment). Will be glad if they get this working!

If x64 does not work you, you probably have an early intel mac. The latest core 2's work.

Couple of tips:

1. Do not waste time trying to get it to work on an external HD!
2. Think carefully about the size of the XP partition the 5GB default is not generous. XP will eat it all with virtual memory unless you fix the size yourself (look it up in xp help). WIth 1GB of memory what is xp doing that it thinks it needs 2.7GB pagefile.sys . I know 64bit = twice memory to 32bit but really!
3. Use bootcamp to create the partition and start the install (note hold down the option key each time windows setup reboots to select windows and pick up windows install from where it left off)
4. Do NOT waste a CD on bootcamp drivers. They really cannot be installed!
5. Run windows update after install (loads of security patches)
6. Anyone know of a reliable x64 virus checker? Norton -no 32bit, Mcafee does not download. CA will work for some things but not auto protect and keeps moaning at you.

Couple of differences for the macbook ( from point 13 in MacSolidWorks prodedure ) and new intel chips:

1. Macbook has integrated GMA 950 graphics so driver is:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&Produ ctID=2301&DwnldID=12010&strOSs=109&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional%20x64 %20Edition&lang=eng

This is the for the Intel 945GM chipset in the new core 2 duo macbook.

The screen will work without it but the resolution is not great. The download is installed in xp x64.

2. Audio

After two days of messing around this is the best I can come up with.

A patch is required from microsoft to make HD audio available at all THIS MUST be installed before any drivers:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?amp;amp;displaylang=en&familyid= DAB139F1-065C-41E8-A148-9D79BD9D24F9&displaylang=en

Next the drivers:

- The realtek drivers DO NOT work on the macbook core 2 (always get 'No Audio Device')
- Try Sigmatel Drivers

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&Produ ctID=2282&DwnldID=11430&strOSs=All&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems&lang=eng

FOR ME These will produce normal sound from the internal speakers ONLY IF the headphone jack is 3/4 in the socket (bizarre but true for me). NO sound if headphone jack pushed all the way in, no sound from speakers if headphones not 3/4 in.

Going to play around with the sigmatel control panel a bit to see if I can fix this.

onmac.net have similar intel/sigmatel drivers and issues where only headphone works on macbook pro.

The above driver is intended for an 64 bit Intel desktop. The driver is the same sigmatel version as the 32bit bootcamp driver.

I believe that intel used to use Realtek integrated sound chip now use Sigmatel for 945GM chipset onwards. At the moment cannot find a similar laptop using same build. Mac system profiler does not say which chip is used. The fact the driver works (if partially) points to sigmatel.

If anyone can find an asus laptop with core2duo intel 945GM and sigmatel, might find the correct installer for the driver ( i think asustek make the macbook for apple?).

There is nothing on Intel when you search for laptops. Unlike if you search for
desktops. Think the driver is right just looking for desktop ports.

Intels software moans on startup.

If someone has a better solution...

As for the other drivers

My ethernet just worked (first for Microsoft) You might not be so lucky and need the drivers mentioned in the forum
MS Update downloads a driver for gigabit ethernet.

The other drivers I do not care at the moment. Just want XP for windows media player to watch Ashes Cricket ( http://www.cricketaustralia.tv/page/Home/0,,12377,00.html should work for live tv as I am currently in finland) hence fixing my sound. If WIMP worked on a mac or itunes got the coverage would not bother with windows. The only other thing windows is good for is Office and can get by with OpenOffice which is pretty good.

If you want isight etc should use your Mac

Right click in XP would be useful though!

Cheers

Julian

Update:

After a bit of tinkering Audio stopped working totally. Cannot reproduce how I got the sigmatel driver to work.

Totally frustrated think will buy a 32 bit copy of XP soon can then use the bootcamp drivers to at least get audio.

I'd be happy with mono out of a headphone. Why High Definition Audio when there are so many issues!

Anybody running x64 on a MacBook/Pro:

Since I found this thread useful for tips on getting XP x64 to work, thought I'd post a link to another thread I found useful for sound driver issues on laptops under x64:

http://forum.onmac.net/showthread.php?s=aad75cc6d5b5bbc985f538f3420d7123&t=1268

Have sound working just fine on my MacBook thanks to this advice (some minor registry editing required)
