Well, I think I have solved my problem by going through the complete sequential deletion and re-installation process but I think the key to the problem was that I originally scanned my entire external USB drive with iTunes to pick up content and this included files such as WAV and FLAC that iTunes won't read and thus won't transfer. Scanning an iTunes backup folder that contains ONLY AIFF, m4a, and MP3 files means that when it comes to transferring music onto my new iPod Classic from iTunes- it works!!!

Now, in the files containing non- readable FLAC files, I do also have corresponding m4a files but I don't want to risk scanning them again for fear of the same problem re-occuring. So, the process of removing them individually out of the folders may be a laborious task but I'm just relieved that it finally works.

    Any comments or advice?

    Thanks

Hmm, iTunes doesn't have native support for flac, so whatever workaround you have had in place to support them in the past may have been broken.
